Hildegrim[1] (c. 750 – 827) was a Benedictine, bishop of Châlons-sur-Marne from 804, and brother of Saint Ludger. He is also traditionally given as the first bishop of Halberstadt, a position now discounted by scholars;[2] he is known to have been active in spreading Christianity into the region of the diocese, as a mission among the Saxons. He followed his brother as abbot at Werden and Helmstedt in 809.[3] Hildegrim is buried at the crypt of the Werden abbey church. He is a Catholic and Orthodox[4] saint, remembered on July 19.[5] Notes ^ Hildegrin, Hildigrin, Hildegrimus, Hildigrimus. ^ Schaff, Philip.
