Lady Alicia Blackwood née Lambart, (1818 – 30 July 1913), the daughter of George Frederick Augustus Lambart, Viscount Kilcoursie (1789-1828) and Sarah Coppin, was an English painter and nurse, married to the Rev. James Stevenson Blackwood (-1882) [1]. Lady Alicia Blackwood was delegated by Florence Nightingale to manage a hospital in Scutari, for the wives, widows and children of soldiers. As with Mary Seacole, there was a certain coolness between these ladies, and from all accounts Nightingale saw Blackwood as troublesome, referring to the nurses under her command as Allobroges, the women who were camp followers of the ancient Gauls [2]. Author of "A Narrative of Personal Experiences & Impressions during a Residence on the Bosphorus throughout the Crimean War (1881)". Blackwood volunteered to assist Florence Nightingale in December 1854 at Scutari. She provides details of the pain and suffering of the patients and notes on the customs of the Turkish women in Scutari.
