It heads eastward, crossing over I-380 along the way. It intersects with US 151 in Marion as it turns to the southeast. The highway then continues to the east where it will terminate at US 151 and IA 13. History The first Iowa Highway 100 existed from 1920 to June 1958, and was located in southwest Iowa. Its western terminus was originally Griswold, Iowa, later it was extended to Council Bluffs, Iowa. The eastern terminus was at U.S. Route 71 near Lyman, Iowa. The second Iowa Highway 100 was established in June 1958, with a western terminus at U.S. Highway 6, and an eastern terminus at US 71 in Cass County, Iowa. Because it was so close to the original Highway 100 route, motorists were confused by its placement, and the state quickly renamed the highway as Iowa Highway 414. The current Iowa Highway 100 came into being on 14 August 1984. When created, this new highway absorbed part of the former route of Iowa Highway 150. Originally the western terminus of the highway was located at Interstate 380 at the northern edge of Cedar Rapids, and the eastern terminus was at U.S. Route 151 Business, First Avenue in Cedar Rapids.[2] Future expansion Currently, plans are under consideration to extend Iowa Highway 100 from Edgewood Road NW to the south and west to have it meet with U.S. Route 30 / U.S. Route 218 in western Linn County. This would provide a four lane bypass around the entire city. The proposed expansion has proven to be controversial, with the Linn County Conservation Board worried about environmental impact such an expansion would have on the area - especially the Rock Island Forest Preserve. As a result it is now believed that such an expansion would not be open before 2016.[2][3] Major intersections County Location Mile[1] Roads intersected Notes Linn Cedar Rapids 0.000 Edgewood Road NE   1.523 I-380 / Iowa 27   4.231 US 151 Bus.
